How To Do Your Emotional Recycling

I know you’ve seen trouble. Bad things DO happen, sometimes even tragically bad things. Here are 3 simple steps for doing your emotional recycling in a way that brings healing, rather than more hurt…

Heal your soul with good emotional recycling

When you go through a powerful struggle, it can get bad enough that you lock up, paralyzed, unable to move forward. Perhaps you try to numb the pain with drugs, alcohol, work, sex; whatever you can find to try and not feel the hurt for a little while.

Sometimes the pain makes you become an angry person, blaming others for the awkward, hurtful way this struggle has shaped your body, soul, and life.

I know you’re on your way out of that terrible place, but you still REMEMBER it.

No matter how much you’d like to pretend it never happened, the memory is strong.

And the tendency to recycle the pain is strong. It’s tempting to tell the terrible stories, focus on the collateral damage, prophecy doom for yourself and others…

Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?  ~ Mary Manin Morrissey

Here is my hope for you:

1. Be open to the truth of your struggle.

Accept that it happened, and it hurt.

2. Grow something good with your story.

Be willing to lovingly allow that churning anger, hate, pain, or sadness to become emotional mulch for your spirit.

Grow something beautiful out of that compost…

3. Tell your stories of triumph.

It’s tempting — and far easier — to tell your stories of pain. Instead, recycle the JOY, rather than the misery.

Tell your story to yourself (and others) as a story of hardship overcome, or unexpected growth; a fresh start or a stepping stone to something beautiful.

Good emotional recycling takes work and time. Be willing to do that work.

Because you deserve a life of joy, rather than misery. Your story wants to shine. Your life should glow with creative energy and unstoppable courage.

Learning to do your emotional recycling is one of the hardest but most rewarding skill your heart can learn.
